Winter Driving- Safety Around Snowplows

Created on

Snowplows are out in full force at this time of year. Remaining safe is a joint responsibility. When you see a snowplow, salt or sand truck on the road, please proceed with caution. When approaching a snowplow be patient and give plenty of space to the vehicles that work to keep your roads clear and safe.

Do not assume that the snowplow operator can see you, especially if you are driving too close or the visibility is poor.

Your best defense is to keep your distance so please slow down and proceed with caution.

Remember the shoulders of the roads are soft and sometimes it’s hard to see how close you are to the ditch. Snowmobiles running along the shoulders and ditches pack the snow down and may give the illusion that the road is wider than it actually is.
