WELCOME TO RYERSON TOWNSHIP

The Township of Ryerson was incorporated in 1880.

An excerpt from the local history book, A Tribute to Ryerson Township, describes: “…The Township of Ryerson (as) situated in the east portion of the District of Parry Sound in the Province of Ontario. It is a beautiful area containing several lakes and the Magnetawan River winding its way through the Township from East to West. The township office is located at 28 Midlothian Rd, in Burk’s Falls. The office hours are Tuesday to Friday 8:30a.m.-4:00p.m.

Tri R Landfill & Recycling Centre

The township of Ryerson does not offer curbside garbage pick up. Property owners are provided with a landfill card to be used at the local landfill located at 141 Chetwynd Road, Burk's Falls.

Where is the Public Library?

The Library provides weekly program and activities for all ages, visit their website to find out more about what is happening at the library.

Where is the Fire Department?

The local fire department services Ryerson, Burk's Falls and Armour. The Fire Chief, Fire Prevention Officer and Administration offices are located at 162 Huston Street, Burk's Falls. The Fire halls is located at 168 Ontario Street, Burk's Falls.

Where is the Local Arena?

The arena offers ice rentals, hall rentals, private events, and Birthday parties, and weekly public skating.

What By-laws does my Township have?

The Township has various By-laws in place to ensure that the residents of Ryerson are kept safe.

Who Polices the Area?

Policing services are provided by the Ontario Provincial Police with the Almaguin Highlands Detachment located at 46 Highway #520, Burk's Falls ON.

We also have two By-law Enforcement Officers who work together to ensure residents are following By-laws.

How do I Report an Issue?

Do you have a municipal issue that you want addressed? Complete the complaint form and submit it to the Ryerson office.

I Have a Dog, do I Need to Get a License?

Yes, all dogs are to be registered with the township and a dog tag is to be purchased annually.

Can I Have a Trailer on my property?

A trailer license is required for a trailer that is placed on a vacant piece of property and does not have a dwelling. Licenses are to be purchases annually.

Properties with a dwelling can store a trailer on the property without a license.

I Want to Build on my Property, What is Required?

Purchasing a new home may mean having some renovations or new builds in mind. Visit the Building Department website for the required steps and permits. 

I Would Like to Attend a Council Meeting.

Anyone wishing to address Council during a meeting is required to contact the Clerk to be added to the Agenda and a delegation form must be completed.

Getting Involved

The Township of Ryerson has a recreation committee always looking for more volunteers. 

The committee works on improving the area parks and trails throughout the Township.
